Carroll gave Vanderbilt the early lead at the 4:21 mark when she beat Duke goalkeeper Isis Dallis (Marlboro, Mass.) with a shot from 30 yards out to give Vanderbilt the 1-0 lead. The play was assisted by freshman Laura Hershenow and sophomore Jen Talavera.
Both teams were very physical the entire game as 35 fouls were called, 17 against Duke and 18 against Vanderbilt.
The Commodores sealed the victory in the 88th minute when freshman Emily Wilpers collected a pass from sophomore Kat Caroll, beat a Duke defender and then beat Dallis on a breakaway.
Duke will return to action in the ACC Women's Soccer Championship on Thurs., Nov. 2 at Koskinen Stadium. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
