Women's Golf Wins NCAA Fall Preview

SUNRIVER, Ore. (Sept 15) - The 1999-2000 Duke women's golf team, the No. 1 ranked team in the country and the defending national champions, have begun the year with a tournament win after capturing the title at the 1999 NCAA Fall Preview in Sunriver, Ore.

The Blue Devils led from start to finish in the competitive event, collecting rounds of 294-293-291=878. Duke was pushed by both Southern Cal and Arizona, each finishing tied for second at 882. Arizona State earned a fourth-place showing at 891, while UCLA finished fifth at 905.

Duke's Candy Hannemann was the top Duke finisher as she fired rounds of 75-74-71=220 to tie for sixth. Senior Amie Lehman, who held a tie for the lead after two rounds, finished tied for eighth at 72-70-79=221. Junior Kalen Anderson and sophomore Beth Bauer tied for 11th. Anderson secured rounds of 72-77-73=222, while Bauer collected scores of 75-72-75=222. Freshman Maria Garcia-Estrada completed the Duke lineup tied for 20th at 76-77-72=225.

The event was played at the Crosswater Golf Club, a 6,502-yard par 72 layout.
