Duke Women's Golf in First Place After Round One at NCAA Fall Preview

Durham, NC (Sept. 14) - The 1999-2000 Duke women's golf team, fresh off winning last year's NCAA Championship, have jumped out to a first round lead at the 1999 NCAA Fall Preview in Sunriver, Oregon. The Blue Devils fired a 294 in Monday's first round of the year for the team, two strokes better than Southern Cal's 296. Arizona is third at 299, Arizona State is fourth at 300, and Stanford stands fifth at 305.

Leading the way for Duke was senior Amie Lehman and junior Kalen Anderson, both of which collected a 72 in the first day of competition to hold a tie for fourth. The pair of Blue Devils are two strokes off the pace of 70 set by Miriam Nagl of Arizona State and Jenna Daniels of Arizona. Duke sophomores Beth Bauer and Candy Hannemann are tied for 13th at 75, while Blue Devil freshman Maria Estrada is tied for 22nd at 76.

The event will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Crosswater Golf Club, a 6,502-yard par 72 layout.
