Duke got off to a strong start, building a 24-0 lead before the Hornets put their first points on the board at the 8:57 mark of the first half. The Blue Devils then led 38-12 at the half, and increased their lead in the second period, winning by a 36-point margin, their third-largest win of the season.
Duke's Georgia Schweitzer scored a game-high 15 points, nailing 6-of-11 shots. Sophomore guard Krista Gingrich, in her first career collegiate start, had a season-high 14 points and four assists. Gingrich started in place of junior Rochelle Parent, who did not dress for the game due to a sore calf muscle. Senior Lauren Rice also had key contributions, pulling down a game-high nine rebounds and setting a new career-high with eight assists. Every player in uniform saw action and scored points for the Blue Devils.
The Hornets were led by Sephora Scoubes, who scored 14 points off the bench, 12 in the second half. CSUS overcame a 17 percent shooting performance in the first half; hitting 50 percent of their shots in the second period to shoot 31.4 percent for the game. The Blue Devils hit 44 percent from the field, but only connected on 19 percent of their three-point attempts (3-of-16). Duke outrebounded the Cal State Sacramento 45 to 30, and forced 33 Hornet turnovers while committing 20.
The Blue Devils will next face Liberty, winners over UNLV on Monday, in the SunSplash Shootout championship game on Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m.
