Browne's 19 points, Schweitzer's 15 points lead Duke to win
DURHAM, N.C. (November 24) - No. 25 Duke used Peppi Browne's 19 points, Georgia
Schweitzer's 15 points and 66 percent three-point shooting to defeat
Vanderbilt 68-59 Wednesday at CameronIndoor Stadium. The victory
improved Duke to 2-1 on the young season while Vanderbilt drops to 1-2.
Duke held off Vanderbilt as it connected on eight of 12 three-point attempts. The Blue Devils took advantage of 42.9 percent Vanderbilt free throw shooting.
Duke pushed its lead to as many as 12 points (54-42) on a Lauren Rice three-pointer with 8:16 to go in the game but Vanderbilt battled back to within four points at the 3:00 mark. With a 59-55 lead, Duke's Schweitzer scored on a layup, Browne nailed two free throws and Sheana Mosch hit a jumper to put the game out of reach at 65-56 with 1:00 to go.
The Blue Devils took command for good on a 20-18 lead on a Browne layup with 6:14 to go in the first half. They held a 27-24 halftime advantage.
Duke placed four players in double figures. Browne paced the Blue Devils with a game-high 19 points (7-9 free throw shooting), Schweitzer finished with 15 points on 3-4 three-point shooting, Rice scored 12 points (3-3 three-point shooting) and Matyasovsky added 10.
Vanderbilt was led by Zuzuna Klimesova's 14 points. Chantelle Anderson and Julie deGroot both added 13 points apiece.
The Blue Devils host the Duke Women's Basketball Classic this weekend at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils host three teams- Florida A&M, St. Joseph, Penn State. St. Joseph's and Penn State meet in the first game on Saturday at 2 p.m. while Duke and Florida A&M play at 4 p.m. The losers of both games play at 2 p.m. Sunday while the winners play at 4 p.m.
