Women's Golf Opens 16-Stroke Lead

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (October 9) -- Duke's top-ranked women's golf team stretched its lead at the Franklin Street Trust Tar Heel Invitational to 16 strokes over second place Tennessee at the Governors Club in Chapel Hill Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils shot a team-total of 292 to go with Friday's 304 for a 596 two-day total.

The Blue Devils have four players in the tournament's top 10 individuals with Candy Hannemann tied for the individual lead at 72-73--145. She is tied with Auburn's Danielle Downey who shot a 71 today. Sophomore Beth Bauer is close behind in a third place tie with a 76-73--149. Duke teammates Kristina Engstrom and Amie Lehman are also in the hunt at 151 in a seventh place tie.

The Blue Devils are looking for their fourth straight tournament championship, including last year's NCAA Championship.
