Top-Ranked Women's Golf in Sixth Place

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (October 16) - Duke's top-ranked women's golf team sits in sixth place after 36 holes of the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Women's Championships, but just nine strokes behind co-leaders South Carolina and Georgia. The Blue Devils shot a 302 in the morning round which was good for a third place tie but then struggled with a 307 in the afternoon.

Duke's Candy Hannemann sits in sixth place after the first day, shooting a 73-75--148. She is seven shots behind Georgia's Shauna Estes who is three-under par with a 141. Duke's top scorer Beth Bauer is in a 35th place tie with a 74-82--156. Kalen Anderson and Maria Estrada are both tied for 19th at 154. Amie Lehman rounds out Duke's squad with a pair of 79's for a 158.

The competition continues for the next two days at the Gettysvue Polo, Golf & Country Club. The course is a par 72 at 5,958 yards.
