CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (October 10) -- Duke's number-one ranked women's golf squad won its third straight tournament in 1999 with a convincing 21-stroke victory over second place Tennessee at the Franklln Street Trust/Tar Heel Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Governor's Club.
Sophomore Beth Bauer finished second place in the individual competition, losing by one stroke to Auburn's Danielle Downey. Bauer carded a final day 70 but was four strokes behind Downey entering Sunday's play.
The Blue Devils had five players finish in the top 10, including Maria Garcia-Estrada who played as an individual not in the team event scoring, and finished tied for fourth with a 80-74-69--223. She tied Candy Hanneman who was the second round leader but had a 78 on Sunday.
Amie Lehman finished seventh at 225 while Kristina Engstrom placed
ninth at 228.
