All-America, 1957
All-Atlantic Coast Conference, 1957
Most Valuable Player of 1958 Orange Bowl Team
Member of 1955 ACC Championship Team
Tom Topping, from Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, was a Duke football tackle from 1955 through 1957. During his career, the Blue Devils claimed one conference crown and played in the Orange Bowl.
The conference title came in Topping's sophomore season of 1955, when the Devils finished with a 7-2-1 record and shared the league title with Maryland.
Topping was the team's most valuable player and an All-ACC choice in 1957, when Duke parlayed a 5-0 start into a second-place conference finish and a berth in the Orange Bowl opposite Oklahoma. Topping made six All-America teams that year and played in the Senior Bowl.
