One of the most prolific rebounders in school history, Bernie Janicki holds the single season and single game records for rebounding totals to this day after graduating in 1954.Â
A two-time team captain and team MVP as a senior, Janicki set the season rebound record in 1952 with 476 boards and a 15.9 average.Â
A native of Ambridge, PA, Janicki is currently eighth all-time in career rebounds with 923 and his 11.1 career average is the third-best in school history.Â
He also holds the school's single game record with 31 rebounds against North Carolina in a 94-64 win in 1952.Â
He was a seventh-round NBA draft pick by Ft. Wayne upon graduation and played for the Akron Goodyear Wingfoots of the National Industrial Basketball League in 1954 and 55.Â
Janicki entered the service and attended Air Flight School and flew jet bombers in Vietnam in 1966 and 67. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1975.
