Upcoming Event: Track & Field versus NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 10, 2026

Her role with the Duke track and field program will change, but the importance of Jan Samuelson Ogilvie’s contributions to the Blue Devils will perhaps be even more significant. Not only will the lifelong coach continue to be close to the sport she is passionate about, Ogilvie will serve as the director of special projects for the team.
Ogilvie will head a coordinated effort to communicate with alums thru a newsletter and other mediums, and lead an effort to help fund-raise to ensure Duke continues to have the dollars needed to compete with the nation’s very best programs. The new track in Wallace Wade Stadium is the first project that Jan pushed hard for. Her two decades plus of division one coaching experience, including the last six years as head coach of the Duke women’s program, give Ogilvie great insight into what needs to be done to make both the women’s and men’s team better.
While Ogilvie will continue her career with Duke physical education full-time, she is looking forward to the opportunity to travel less, allowing her to spend more time with her daughter, Jade. Her new position will also allow her more time to actually coach, and with the addition of one of the nation’s top high school jumpers to the Duke women’s team it will allow Ogilvie a great chance to add to the list of 20 All-America selections she has already coached.
