DURHAM, N.C.? The WBCA released its 20-member High School All-America team on Wednesday with Duke incoming freshman Bridgette Mitchell of Hightstown, N.J. being selected. The game will be played on Saturday, April 1 with a scheduled tip time of 4:30 p.m. at the NCAA Final Four in Boston, Mass.
Mitchell, a 6-0 wing from The Peddie School, has been listed No. 7 in the class of 2006 by the Blue Star Report. She is having a very successful senior campaign that includes a triple-double with 25 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals. Mitchell also became the sixth player in Peddie School history to reach the 1,000-point mark in her career.
Mitchell is coming off a junior campaign where she averaged 14.1 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 2.6 assists leading her team to a 23-3 mark. She earned All-State First Team, Street & Smith’s Second Team All-America, USA Today Junior All-America and All-Conference accolades last year. She averaged 14.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, 4.1 steals and led Peddie School to a 16-8 record as a sophomore.
Over the summer, Mitchell played on the 2005 USA Youth Development Festival Blue Team that went undefeated with a 5-0 record to clinch the gold medal. She averaged 12.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.0 assists in five games. Her 12.0 points was the fourth-best scoring output in the festival and scored double-figure points in four of the five contests.
