DURHAM, N.C. --- Freshman midfielder Emma Hamm was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference's Rookie of the Year, announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford. Hamm was chosen through voting by the league's six coaches.
Hamm has made the adjustment to Division I lacrosse very smoothly this year. Hamm, a product of Wayne, Pa., has tallied at least one point in every game so far and leads the team in draw controls (47) and caused turnovers (26). She also ranks second in assists (19) and ground balls (34). On March 3, Hamm was named WomensLax.com's National Rookie of the Week and on March 18 honored as WomensLacrosse.com's National Rookie of the Week. She earned a spot on the All-ACC team in just her first season as a Blue Devil.
Hamm joins Kate Kaiser (1999), Megah Miller (2001) and Katie Chrest (2003) as Duke winners of the award.
Dana Dobbie of Maryland was named the ACC's Player of the Year for the second straight season and Julie Myers of Virginia was honored as the ACC Coach of the Year.
Duke will travel to Washington, D.C., to take on the No. 6 seed Georgetown Hoyas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at 2:00 p.m., at the Hoyas' Multi-Sport Field. This marks the Blue Devils 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
