One of the most accomplished players in program history, Marc Flur compiled a 110-29 singles record during his career and became the first Duke men’s tennis player inducted into the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame.
Flur earned ITA All-America honors in 1983 and finished his senior season ranked No. 15 nationally in singles. The 1983 ACC Tournament MVP, he remains the only player in program history to capture five ACC flight championships, winning two singles titles and three doubles crowns.
A key figure in a historic era for the Blue Devils, Flur helped lead Duke to its first ACC team championship in 1982. That team posted a 31-4 record, set a program mark for wins in a season and made Duke’s first NCAA Championship appearance.
Following his collegiate career, Flur competed on the professional tour for six years, reaching a career-high ranking of No. 71 in singles and No. 60 in doubles. He played in five Wimbledon Championships and six U.S. Opens.
Flur later returned to Duke as an assistant coach from 1989-92, helping guide the Blue Devils to a 52-30 record and an ACC championship.
